Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM Sarawak) in collaboration with Azam Youth Central is holding the ‘Remembering Tok Nan’ programme at Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) from yesterday (Jan 15) to Jan 19.

Azam Sarawak acting deputy chief executive officer Rosalind Yang Misieng said that the programme serves as a platform for members of the public to offer condolence messages and words of comfort that will be framed and distributed to family of the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

For Rosalind, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem was one of the last remaining wise leaders from the old days – open minded, well read and knowledgeable.

“Tan Sri Adenan was able to highlight the uniqueness of our local languages and dialects, able to transcend above petty concerns, unswayed by detractors, able to emphatise with the struggles of the man on the street and the rural underprivileged, undeterred by divisive elements and consistently focusing on the greater good of the people of Sarawak.

“He might not have been a perfect leader but the significance of what he had managed to achieve is evident in the solidarity of Sarawakians today, and in the solid support by various quarters during his tenure and, in the wide outpouring of grief with his demise,” she said.

Through this programme, Azam Sarawak communications officer Mohd Hassnal Hakim Junaidi hopes to be able to show their sign of appreciation for all of Adenan contribution to the state, especially among the younger generation.

“We as youths of Sarawak are deeply saddened by the passing of our true hero.

“All of his words of encouragement to the youths throughout the state will always be remembered dearly in our hearts,” he said.

Among those who were present at the event yesterday was Azam Sarawak community development officer Mohd Wasli Ismail who have been involved with many activities that allowed him to get close with the late Adenan.

“One of the most important advices that I have received from the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem is always be true to yourself. Do not give up easily and always remember to uphold our local cultures and not to be distracted by foreign cultures.

“I wish to encourage youths out there to always remember him as a truly admirable and honourable individual who have done a lot to help people in the state, regardless of our social backgrounds. I hope that the state will continue to develop tremendously with our youths who he had foreseen are able to continue his legacy for years to come,” he added.

Condolence messages and words of comfort written on sticky notes were put on a platform provided by Azam Youth Central to the general public at UTC Kuching.
