SIBU: Coming only into the second week of the year, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) scored its first enforcement success in 2017 at Jalan Stabau, Salim near here last Monday (Jan 9).

Acting on information received from the police, a SFC team comprising staff from One-Stop Compliance Centre (OSCC) Mapai and Sibu Regional Office raided the reported location on the same day.

“The raid yielded a total of 33 illegal logs of the Terap and Benuang species that had been trimmed into short logs.

“The logs had been felled from an adjacent site and left at the road side awaiting transportation out of the area. The logs have been detained upon confirming that no license to extract timber has been issued at the area,” said SFC in a statement.

A report was lodged at the Sibu Jaya Police Station on Tuesday (Jan 10).

The case was handed over to the relevant authority on January 11 for further investigation and disposal.
