The finalists were judged based on their physical appearance, personality and talent and they will be competing for the title at the Grand Final taking place on April 29 at Sarawak Cultural Village.

According to Festival Director Zaini Zainuddin, some minor changes have been introduced to this year’s beauty pageant.

“We wish to go beyond just being the right platform for young beauties and aspirants who are ambitious and want to improve themselves.

“In this period of three months before the Grand Final, the participants will need to attend mentoring programmes, where past winners will guide the finalists and share their experiences. We are also providing grooming and makeup sessions, English classes and motivational classes to gear them to become someone who can not only represent the pageant but also the various races from the state,” said Zaini of the 19th edition of the beauty pageant themed at the Bidayuh community when met by reporters after the selection of finalists at The Club, Riverside Majestic on Jan 7.

The annual beauty pageant is organised by the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) as one of the programmes for the World Harvest Festival 2017 with the support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Sarawak (MTAC).

This year, WHF will take place from April 28 to 30. Among the highlights of the 3-day 2-night festival besides the beauty pageant are the cultural stage-play from the Bidayuh community, cultural concert with interactive workshops on dance and music, Ironman WHF 2017, Sarawak Ethnic Kitchen Culinary Challenge, Sarawak Crafts Exhibition and more.

Tickets are on sale at RM60 per person. The organisers will also launch an online ticketing service at a later date. For more information, contact 082-846411 or 082-846108.
