Superhero movies to look forward to in 2017

2017 will be interesting – US President-elect Donald Trump will be occupying the White House, the 14th Malaysian general election might take place, the Sabahans might be also voting for the state elections, and something bigger than PPAP will break the internet.

Regardless of what might happen in this brand new year, good or bad, these are Superheroes movies will for sure premiering in the cinemas and for us Malaysian audience to look forward to.

  1. Logan

This is definitely one of the must-watch movies of 2017. This is the last film in which Sir Patrick Stewart will play Professor X and where Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine.

Set in the future, Logan and Professor X must cope with the loss of the X-Men when a corporation led by Nathaniel Essex is bent on destroying the world, with Logan’s healing abilities slowly eroding away and Prof X’s Alzheimer’s forcing him to forget.

Logan must beat Nathaniel Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney, a female clone of Wolverine.

  1. Power Rangers

If you spent your childhood in the great era of the 90s, then you must have grown up watching Power Rangers.

This is the third Power Rangers movie to make onto the big screen, after Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997).

But this is a reboot of the series and is not connected to the previous two films.

If you have no clues who the Power Rangers are, they are high school kids with superpowers who use their abilities to save the world.

  1. Guardian of the Galaxy Vol.2


Who are Peter Quill’s parents? This is the question which is going to be answered in Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2’, the Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together in this sequel.

Director James Gunn clearly stated this sequel won’t set up Avengers: Infinity War so you won’t find any infinity stones here.

  1. Wonder Woman

Featuring a woman who makes straight women doubt their sexual orientation, Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman aka Diana, princess of the Amazons.

The film follows Diana who is raised on a sheltered island paradise before an American pilot crashes on their shores telling of a massive conflict – World War 2 – raging in the outside world.

Like any superhero, Diana decides to save the world.

  1. Spiderman: Homecoming

Following his adventure with the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) is now home.

So this movie follows the young superhero navigating his life as the Spiderman.

It was confirmed that Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.) will appear in the film. Hence this will be the first time a Spiderman movie will include another superhero from the Marvel universe.

  1. Thor: Ragnarok

If you have been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rumours are that the last infinity stone will probably appear in this movie.

While that is still just a rumour, what you will see is Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) helping Thor (Chris Hemsworth)save the universe in this movie.

Another fact is this will be the first Thor movie without Jane Foster and her team. So goodbye Darcy and Erik Selvig!

  1. Justice League

For starters, Steppenwolf – a recurring bad guy in DC Comics – is confirmed as the main villain.

To stop him, Batman and Wonder Woman assemble a team of metahumans – Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.

The movie occurs months after the events in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hence, watch out for the resurrection of Superman.
