Super Nintendo World – A Theme Park Edition
Universal Studios has announced that it will open the world’s first Super Mario theme park in Japan, just in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Known as Super Nintendo World, the theme park will feature state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops and restaurants – all featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters and games.
The attraction area will also feature a variety of other popular Nintendo characters. Nintendo says that Super Nintendo World will feature “attractions based on many Nintendo titles”, though characters and themes from the “Super Mario” series looks like they might dominate.
Super Nintendo World will be located on the existing Universal Studios Japan site in Osaka, in park’s current parking area and part of an area designated for future expansion. It will slowly see that Orlando and Hollywood has this too.
Development cost is currently expected to exceed 50 billion Yen (USD431.78 million). However, it could bring economic benefits of approximately 11.7 trillion Yen for Japan as a whole, and will create approximately 1.1 million jobs by 2030, according to research by Katsuhiro Miyamoto, a professor at Kansai University.
