On March 6, 2012, something happened which rocked the then 13-year-old Nur Naqqiuddin Ahmad’s life.

His father suffered a stroke leaving him paralysed down one side of his body, leaving Naqqiuddin’s mother the responsibility of becoming the sole breadwinner of the family.

Last February, Naqqiuddin’s life took another toll when he noticed a swelling on the right side of his neck.

By July, the SMK Dalat student was diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer.

Now, Naqqiuddin has reached stage 4 of the illness.

As if the family had not gone through enough, Naqqiuddin’s younger brother 16-year-old Alif was diagnosed with stage 4 of throat cancer about four months ago.

Despite his illness, Naqqiuddin persevered through his hardship, sitting for his SPM examinations.

When a local radio station heard about Naqqiuddin’s ordeal in fighting cancer, they immediately knew they had to do something special for him.

A representative from Cats FM said they were approached by Belioo Buskers who asked the station to make Naqqiuddin’s dream come true.

As an avid Dota 2 player who is also among the pioneers who introduced Dota to Dalat in Mukah, his dream was to compete in a Dota 2 competition together with other E-sports athletes.

So, the Cats FM team approached Gizmogamers to co-organise a Dota 2 competition especially for Naqqiuddin.

The end-result of the planning was a Dota 2 Challenge between Team Cats FM and Team NFG E-sports team at Gizmogamers in ONE TJ on Dec 11.

Gizmogamers engineering analyst Chris Kee said, “We picked Team NFG because they are currently the best Dota 2 team players in Sarawak.”

By putting Naqqiuddin in Team NFG, Kee hoped he would have the full experience of playing in a competitive E-sports game.

After three rounds of the friendly match, NFG beat Cats FM.

The fun did not only come from the E-sports game as local talents Belioo Busker and dance crew StepHolic also performed during the event.

The challenge was also supported by Friendship Community, Mid or Feed Cafe, Mr Chinoe Graphic Designer, Belioo Busker, ink&Co, Geng Midin, & StepHolic.
