SFC SWAT removed 4.4-metre male croc from Sg Kelulit
MIRI: The Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) removed a 4.4-metre male crocodile from the waters of Sg Kelulit at Bekenu here yesterday afternoon (Dec 8).
Responding to recent reports of crocodile sightings by residents of Kpg Pejuang, the SWAT from SFC Miri Regional Office was dispatched to the location starting Dec 7 to catch the crocodile.
“The adult croc took the bait yesterday afternoon (Dec 8) and thereafter transferred it to Benaya Crocodile Farm,” said SFC in a press release today.
SFC went on to express concern on the shooting of two crocodiles measuring respectively 4.3-metre and 1.0-metre in length by the villagers on Dec 4.
“The villagers had taken matters into their own hands, citing the protection of their poultry as justification.
“Since crocodiles are listed as protected species under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998, we would strongly urge the public to report sightings of rogue and nuisance crocodiles to the Forest Department or SFC office,” it added.
