SEDC claims third blood donor award

KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) won the Challenge Trophy during the Blood Donors Awards Presentation 2016 hosted by Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kuching Chapter here recently.

The coveted award was received by SEDC Social and Recreation Club (Pedas) deputy president Khartini Johari from Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

SEDC topped the table in the same category for the third time including in 2011 and 2014 after garnering a total of 238 pints of blood last year.

The corporation has started its movement from the very grass roots for instance through its Pedas programmes with an aim to raise awareness on the importance of blood donation and help to reduce a shortage blood supply at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Pedas has been actively engaged in supporting the programme by carrying out a quarterly basis blood campaigns last year. Among the blood donors are its staff, staff of subsidiary group of companies and some members of the public.

Also present were MRC Kuching chairman Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zain and Blood Donors Recruitment Services Sub-Committee chairman John Jong.
