Mulu honoured to receive UNWTO honorary sec-gen
Honorary secretary-general to the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Francesco Frangialli arrived in Mulu on Nov 15 for a two-day visit to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mulu National Park.
During his visit hosted by Sarawak Tourism Board, Frangialli was scheduled to attend a briefing given by the Mulu National Park officials brought on a tour to see the four show caves of Mulu National Park.
Frangialli’s visit to Mulu at the invitation of the Assistant Minister for Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
“It is a good opportunity for us to welcome Mr. Frangialli, an expert in sustainable development of tourism and to have him to see our iconic tourism product on areas hopefully we can have his feedback on areas where we can be better,” said Mary Wan Mering, the acting chief executive officer of the Sarawak Tourism Board.
“Furthermore, Mr. Frangialli will be able to cite our best practises as examples in his future tourism conferences where he will be speaking,” she added.
Mulu National Park obtained its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000, during Frangialli’s tenure as the Secretary General of UNWTO.
