KUCHING: Avid runners from around Kuching and its surrounding areas are invited to participate in the Rotary Charity Run to be held here on Feb 27 next year.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Kuching Central (RCKC), the exciting running event aims at raising funds to supplement numerous community projects to be undertaken by the club this year.

“This run has three categories of 2, 5 and 8 kilometres to cater to a wide range of leisure as well as more dedicated runners.

“We aim to register a total of 3, 000 participants to create extensive publicity for Rotary and our sponsors,” said organising chairman Leonard Sia during the official launch of the Rotary Charity Run 2017 at CityOne Megamall here recently.

Registration will be performed via online registration at www.kuchingcentralrotary.org/rotaryrun2017. The fee is RM50 for 2 and 5 kilometres, and  RM60 for the 8 kilometres categories.

“We also encourage group registration via online. Apart from the online registration, we will also be organising several roadshows and set up counters to accept registrations for the run,” said Sia.

An interesting part of the run is the availability of a ‘virtual run’.

“For this competition, we allow virtual run, means you can register but run at other places on the same day or prior to the event date. We will also send you the banner and T-shirt,” he added.

Prize money will be awarded to Top 10 or winners for 8 kilometres men and women categories.

Every participant will also receive a piece of uniquely designed dry fit T-shirt upon signing up and a beautifully designed finisher medal upon completion of the run.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri is expected to grace the run flag-off to be held at CityOne Megamall near Jalan Song at 7am on Feb 26.

“We are expecting about RM60, 000 to be raised from this run to help us to perform several projects that we are going to do starting this year.

“The successfully completed projects were installing filtered portable water to five longhouses with over 600 residents in Melikin, Serian value at over RM220, 000; and providing over 400 cataract operations costing RM180,000, commercial value was over RM1,100,000 at RM2,800 per operation if performed in private Eye Specialist Clinics.
