Using content marketing to your best advantage
KUCHING: “What is Content Marketing, and how are the best startups using it to great success?”
These are some of the questions that were answered by the digital marketing guru and entrepreneur Maya Nikolovski at a workshop held at ICube Innovation recently.
The workshop is part of the popular Growth Hacking workshop series, organised by the non-profit volunteer community Google Business Group (GBG) Kuching, which aims is to inspire and up-skill entrepreneurs in our fair city. More than 40 entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs from all over Kuching took part.
Maya is an expert in the field of content marketing, and has over five years of industry experience managing full scale marketing teams for over 40 clients. Maya currently works as a Founding Partner of Digital Coalition, an international Digital Marketing Firm, and as an Instructor of Google Analytics at Fanshawe College.
According to Maya, “Content Marketing is all about communicating with your customers without selling. You’re helping your customers find information they are looking for that relates to your products and services.
“When done right, content marketing can yield results that cost less and bring in more leads and sales than other types of marketing. It’s also getting harder and harder to reach people online with advertisements as costs go up and people continue using ad blockers,” she added.
Maya spoke about her global experience in content marketing and working with creative agencies, and provided great insights and anecdotes that the participants enjoyed. Samuel Wong, from The Filmmakers Company, really enjoyed the exercises and case studies, especially on tactics.
“This is exactly what I’ve been looking into recently, and is very relevant to my work,” he said.
Iqrar Zahin, a student from Unimas and co-founder of ILOVEKCH Technology, and Shajibur Rahman, CTO of ACISInnovaTech, both found the presentation to be really inspiring. Shajibur added that he plans to use the techniques learnt on his blog as well as to support his clients to expand their business.
Andrea Bussé, a traveller, admitted that she did not know much about content marketing prior to attending the workshop.
“I just came by to learn more about marketing so everything about her presentation was new and interesting, and I really enjoyed it,” she enthused.
Maya was equally generous in her praise for the local startup scene. According to her, “The startup scene in Kuching and Sarawak is great! iCube Innovation is really at the centre of that, with an amazing co-working space, startup weekends, and a community of supportive leaders who connect people with the resources they need to kick-start and grow their businesses.”
Speaking on behalf of GBG Kuching, Malcolm Wu promised that they will continue to work in partnership with ICube Innovation, to bring accomplished and experienced speakers to inspire the Kuching and Sarawak startup scene.
“It is important that we continue to build and expand this energetic startup and entrepreneurship culture, as it will benefit all Sarawakians,” he added.
