The dreams of thousands young football talents here to play in the international arena will soon become a reality with a nationwide talent search to be held at Padang C, Komplek Sukan Negeri Sarawak from Oct 8 to 9.
The programme, organised by Million Dollar Feet (MDF) is looking for the next young Malaysian football superstar, offering a golden opportunity for kids aged 11 to 14 to be signed up by one of the best clubs in Europe and have their football career set for them.
“Million Dollar Feet is an unprecedented opportunity to make dreams come true by providing a platform for young, up-and-coming football superstars from the country to shine.
“Malaysia is a great country when it comes to football with so much potential here and through this programme, we hope to put the country on the world map of football,” said Million Dollar Feet founder and director of football Peter de Kretser when met here on Sept 27.
He pointed out that MDF was a perfect platform to springboard the career of deserving young local talents in football.
“I look forward towards discovering top talents throughout these tryouts and I believe we will have a great chance to see the first Malaysian bred player to be signed into a world-class football club in the near future,” he added.
The MDF team, led by head coach and former Liverpool captain Steve McMahon will conduct drills and try-outs in five states across the country. It kick started in Penang on Sept 24 and 25, and will move on to Pahang (Oct 1 and 2), Sarawak, Johor (Oct 14-15), before the grand final in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 23.
“We hope to find the country’s best young football talents and through this, we also aspires to become a stepping stone for other markets in South East Asia to replicate and pursue strong interest in football,” said Peter, adding that they received a tremendous response in Penang.
Shortlisted finalists will compete in an ultimate showdown in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 23, where two lucky winners will be sent on the ultimate football experience in an all-expense-paid trip to United Kingdom in November and get the opportunity of being witnessed by scouts from top European football clubs.
“In the UK, the kids will be auditioning for scouts for a chance to sign and potentially play for a premier Europeran club.
“The kids and their families can also get the opportunity to visit several tourism attractions and witness live football matches there as well,” he added.
Million Dollar Feet is presented by Brickfields Asia College, and sponsored by New Balance,
