Registration for the Cor Amoris charity run is Sept 30
St Joseph’s Private School club ‘Cor Amoris’ will be holding a charity run on November 20.
According to its president Germaine Cassandra George, the run is to raise funds for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).
“We are calling on members of the public, especially Kuchingites, to come and support our effort and encourage them to show their generosity to those in need,” said Germaine.
The activity will run from 7am onwards at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Carpark.
There will be two categories for the run – 5km and 3km. The 5km fee is RM50 consisting of a T-shirt and medal while the 3km fee is RM30.
“For those running in the 3km category, they can still purchase a T-shirt for RM20 each,” she added.
Cor Amoris was set up in January last year, with the aim of engaging students in a range of community work and social programmes.
In 2015, the club had organised various activities including a bake sale during Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day charity photo-shoot at The Spring Shopping Mall, as well as a charity carwash.
At the end of last year, they went to a refugee camp in Chiang Mai where they taught local children simple English, as well as helping the people to clear their land for farming and help doctors and dentists from Singapore who were also there.
This year, the club also took part in a Nepal earthquake relief fund and successfully raised RM20, 000 for the project. Other activities also include their annual bake sale, St Joseph’s Church Family Day, Home of Peace food fair, an outreach programme to Bunan, as well as a play from a recycling project.
“From these activities, we managed to raise RM23, 000 for the charity dinner, RM10, 000 for the bake sale and recycling project. All proceeds went to various charity organisations including SCCS and the Society for Kuching Urban Poor. We also managed to donate RM2, 000 to Bunan when we were there.
“Next year, we are planning on more outreach programmes to enhance our effort to help those in need for the betterment of their lives and gain more exposures on it. We are also encouraging for the generosity of individuals, as well as governmental and non-governmental bodies to help us in these efforts,” she added.
The closing date to register for the charity run is Sept 30.
