The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Serian Branch in collaboration with the Serian District Council of Headmasters conducted a motivational programme for schools along the Baki-Riih road here recently.

More than 70 Year Six pupils from SK St John Taee, SK All Saints Plaman Nyabet, SK Parun Suan, SK St Mathew Lanchang and SK Riih Daso attended the programme, who were later joined by about 113 parents and teachers in the motivational talk slot.

According to DBNA Serian Branch secretary-general Dr Clarence Jerry, who is also the spokesman for the event, the programme was funded by DBNA Serian Branch and it was supposed to be carried out in May this year but postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

“The programme aimed to assist and motivate Year Six pupils in their preparation for the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination in September, especially for the four core subjects including Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and Science.

“The clinics for the four core subjects were conducted by the subject experts, SISC and officers from the District Education Office,” said Dr Clarence who was the speaker for the motivational talk slot for both parents and pupils.

The programme coordinator Rolland Linggat, who is also the Serian District Council of Headmasters chairman, SK Parun Suan headmaster and the DBNA Serian Branch Education Subcommittee chairman congratulated all the working committee members namely the principals, teachers and staffs from the five schools, DBNA Serian Branch exco members and the members of Parent Teachers Association of SK St John Taee for their diligent effort in making the event a success.

“I applaud the full attendance of teachers from the five schools. This is a good indicator of future collaboration among them in the best interest of the students from the villages along Baki-Riih road,” he added.

The closing ceremony and presentation of certificates to the participants was graced by DBNA Bung Sadung Branch chairman Nicholas Amin.

Also present at the ceremony were Serian District education officer Yunus Apok, SK St John Taee headmaster Samus Rama, and DBNA exco members from both DBNA Serian Branch and DBNA Bung Sadung Branch.
