KUCHING: The pioneer batch of ’78-81 at Kolej Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah, formerly known as Junior Science College, is organising a reunion dinner to be held at Hilton Hotel Kuching with the theme ‘Old Friends, New Connections – Celebrating Our Journey’ on October 2.

According to a spokesman for the group Dr Clarence Jerry, the first reunion dinner held on November 29, 2014 received an overwhelming response and was attended by 110 ex-students.

“We had so much fun during the first reunion dinner. It was an nostalgic experience – a bunch of 50 year-olds taking a trip down memory lane, rekindling friendships and reliving memories from our younger days,” he said.

The guest of honor for the night is the school’s pioneering principal Datu Putit Matzen.

The reunion dinner will be made merrier with games, stage performances, individual presentations as well as the presence of our former principal and pioneering teachers.

To date, they have around 16 former teachers who have confirmed their participation, and are expecting a crowd of 300.

Dr Clarence said that the committed working committee, led by Abang Iskandar Abang Muas has been working very hard to keep in touch with the rest of the batch.

“We already have some names and contact numbers from the previous event, but we are also trying to reach out to more of our batchmates out there.

“Even our beloved retired ex-teacher and ‘matriarch’, Chiew Leh Choon, has been of great help when it comes to keeping an updated record for those who pledged to come,” he added.

Those from the batch who may be interested in joining or did not make it for the first reunion dinner, contact Anthony Dagan (012-8882762), Mary John (012-8876691), Aminah Savari (013-8156567) or Zainon Ariffin at 016-8848150.
