KUCHING: Students from FAME International College gained valuable insight from industry experts about entrepreneurial skills while on a study tour at iCube Innovation.

Among those who gave talks were Dato Patrick Liew, founder cum chairman of iCube Innovation and Dr Dianne Tsen, founder of Powerlooks Global Sdn Bhd.

Accompanied by lecturers Liew Yu Sun and Dunstan Ang Swee Choon, the 20 or so final year students had the chance to learn valuable insights about the business industry and growing trend of young people who are increasingly involved in entrepreneurship.

Dr Tsen talked to the students about personal branding and how it can set themselves apart from potential business competitors while Liew talked about the opportunities and potential of startup growth in Sarawak.

Apart from that, they also learnt the expectations of the working world. At the end of the talk, a Q&A session was held so that students were able to ask specific questions about entrepreneurial skills and startups.

Strategic Manager of iCube Innovation Malcolm Wu emphasised on the importance of getting out of their comfort zone.

“It’s time for youths today to get out of their comfort shell and take the risk to pursue something,” he said.

“This is important because the youths today will be the future leaders of tomorrow. In order to make a difference to the society and be successful, they need to choose a path that is worth venturing into. That is how many successful young entrepreneurs started.”

The students also had the opportunity to meet the business owners (tenants) in iCube Innovation, the first and largest innovative incubation centre in Sarawak that provides the opportunity for entrepreneurs to grow their business through co-incubation and collaboration.

With a space of 10,000 sq. ft. and fully furnished with facilities such as workstations and high speed Wi-Fi connectivity, the centre is the perfect place for startups to mingle and exchange ideas.
