Carrying out ‘gotong-royong’ and preparing ‘bubur lambuk’ is one of the highlights that people look forward to in the month of Ramadan.
“The practice of ‘gotong-royong’ is one of the cultures that have been carried out by our local communities, especially villagers in the state for years, and it must be passed on to our future generations in order for it to be sustained,” said Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian during the Bubur Lambuk Contribution Programme to Armada Pemuda PBB Batu Kawa held at Surau Wastu An-Nahri in Kampung Tengah Sungai near Batu Kawa here recently.
Also present were Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Batu Kawa branch chairman Tan Joo Phui, secretary Lim Ah Ted, PBB Youth chief of Kampung Tengah Sungai Hamzar Kadir and Kampung Tengah Sungai Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) chairman Mohd Jukit.
The ‘bubur lambuk’ were prepared by members of Sarawak Scout Academy and PBB Youth of Kampung Tengah Sungai, Batu Kawa.
“I hope that such collaboration between the PBB Youth and the Scouts will continue in years to come as it will bring them closer to the community.
“We will also continue to work together with PBB Youth in this area to hold other programmes for the villagers here in the near future,” he added.
Apart from the distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ to the local residents, participants of the programme also spared some time to clean up the village’s surau.
