Inaugural Miss Ethnic Riverside pageant a success

Fifteen finalists vying for the coveted title of Miss Ethnic Riverside 2016 sashayed down the runway at the grand final held at Riverside Shopping Complex on June 25.

The beauties competed in three categories, namely ‘Dayung Sangon Bidayuh’, ‘Kumang Iban’ and ‘Keligit Orang Ulu’ of the inaugural beauty pageant competition.

Marcella Ivy Riot from Kampung Pichin in Serian reigned supreme after being crowned the winner for Dayung Sangon Bidayuh category. Meanwhile, Sastaclaire Drickerson, Nicole Hartman, Marrion Tapper and Victoria Yuyun were named first, second, third and fourth runner-ups, respectively.

As for the Kumang Iban category, Kashmira Pandy from Betong emerged as the winner, while Vivianalin Winston and Michelle Ann Senin were first and second runner-ups, respectively. The third and fourth runner-ups in this category correspondingly were Patricia Faithlin and Maya Muyang.

The Keligit Orang Ulu category saw Neszra Awe Jalong from Long Beyak named the champion, while Melanie De Mensko, Cleopatra Supang, Jzjoanaskki Jugah and Dayang Nur Afiqah were first, second, third and fourth runner-ups, respectively.

Every winner received a crown sponsored by KJ Image Consultant worth RM800 each, Mary Kay products worth RM1, 000, a sash, a trophy, a two-day-one-night stay at Grand Margherita Hotel Kuching, two complimentary entries to Sarawak River Cruise, cash vouchers courtesy of Lea Sport Centre, two complimentary tickets from Matang Family Park and two complimentary entries to Sarawak Cultural Village.

The finalists were judged by pageantry experts and trainers including Priscilla Hyginus, Alice Stephen and Cassie Bong.

The Miss Ethnic Riverside 2016 was organised by Riverside Shopping Complex as part of the Gawai Festival 2016, with participants aged 13 to 18 years old of various races in the state. It was supported by UTC Sarawak, Kuching Waterfront and Matang Family Park.

Sponsors for this inaugural event include Mary Kay, Slimworld, Lea Sport Centre, Lotus Five Star Riverside, Riverside Super Bowl, Sarawak River Cruise, Grand Margherita, Piqasa Studio, KJ Image Consultant, Sarawak Culture Village, Sri Gewang Enterprise and Sape Star.
