Some 100 scouts from various schools throughout the city participated in the ‘Kursus Lencana Api’, an educational programme with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) at their headquarters near Jalan Setia Raja here recently.

Organised by Sarawak Scout Academy and Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the two-day course held from May 21 to 22 aimed at providing the scouts knowledge on fire safety and first aid as well as exposing them to functions and responsibilities of the Fire and Rescue Department, said Sarawak Scout Academy state programme commissioner and messenger of peace coordinator Lawrence Yong.

“During the programme, talks on fire prevention, types of fire, fire class, usage of fire extinguishers, and rescue equipment operations were provided to the scouts by officers from the Fire and Rescue Department.

Yong added that after the theory and practical session, participants were faced with written examination in order for them to earn Fire Extinguisher Service Badges.

“They will have to pass the examination with passing mark of 60 per cent, and upon their success, they will be awarded with the Fire Extinguisher Service Badges that will be presented by officers from the Fire and Rescue Department during the World Scout Day to be held at Lundu in August.
