After a long absence from the Malaysian music industry, Kota Kinabalu-born powerhouse singer Azharina Azhar is making a comeback with a new single titled ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’ (Thank You).
When met at Kedey Kamek restaurant near Metrocity Matang here recently, Azharina or better known as Nina revealed that all this while she had been enjoying her time as a producer.
“The main reason for my re-entry was to fulfill the requests from my supporters. In 2015, I have also released a single in conjunction with my 15th year in the music industry and it was the last masterpiece of the late Adnan Abu Hassan.
“This year, I am working with CQ Music, Azharina Entertainment and Razman Razmi to produce a ‘new look’ for my single ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’. I need to move forward out of my comfort zone of melancholic music,” said Nina who has her own businesses and is a producer for four companies and one club – Kelab Artis 1 Malaysia Sabah (KA1MS) – which she set up in 2014 and is the president.
Nina says her new single is more comfortable for her today with relaxing tunes produced by DJ Fuzz.
“I guess this song is the easiest song that I have ever recorded compared to my previous songs that mostly are of big vocal range and melodramatic. I am already familiar with such genre and when given an easy song, this song is more relaxing for me,” she said.
Nina revealed that her collaboration with CQ Music, Azharina Entertainment and Razman Razmi was to produce music video for the new single and they chose Kuching as their filming location.
“As for the storyline of the music video for ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’, we prefer to think of something that is outside of the box. We want something that has nothing to do with the song in order for it to become something that people can talk about on whether they love it or hate it,” she said of the song which depicts a woman who has everything in her life except for her boyfriend who has left her for another woman.
“We want to promote this song as promotional material, thus promoting Kuching as a tourist destination and most importantly the fashion. This is why I chose Razman Razmi who is famous for his extraordinary avant-garde designs,” she said of the single that was recorded three months ago with the music video filmed at various locations here recently directed by Edwin Lay.
Azharina added that to be able to sustain in the industry, artists need to be themselves and always remember that life is like a wheel.
“It is important for an artist to recognise that they have such amazing talent. A real talented singer must also have a powerful voice that can be improved over time and they must remember to not become someone who is just filling the empty spaces in the industry,” she added.
