AirAsia Badminton Academy announces new coaches

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 MAY 2016 – National badminton legends Rashid Sidek and Rosman Razak will be the new Head Coaches for AirAsia Badminton Academy through a collaboration with Sports Affairs Academy.

The AirAsia Badminton Academy has trained over 250 players since it was established in 2012. Tommy Sugiarto who currently stands 9th in the Badminton World Federation world rankings and have qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics; as well as Arif Latif, the Silver Medalist of the recent SEA Game for Badminton Singles have both joined the league of players who will be trained by the experienced coaches.

Renuka Kunathevan, Regional Head of Corporate Culture for AirAsia Berhad said, “We are truly honoured to have national legends such as Rashid Sidek and Rosman Razak to train the players at AirAsia Badminton Academy, which has produced many quality players for the country. We look forward to see how the AirAsia Badminton Academy will grow under the tutelage of two world badminton legends through this collaboration with Sports Affairs Academy.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Raezal Hussein, Managing Director of Sports Affairs said, “We are pleased to join forces with AirAsia Badminton Academy to provide professional coaching for their team of junior and elite players to produce the next world number one from Malaysia. Badminton is a beloved sport for all Malaysians and this partnership can be the catalyst to propel our local professional badminton scene to the next level.”

The AirAsia Badminton Academy training regularly organises special badminton clinics for the public as well as for AirAsia staff members. On top of sharpening their badminton skills, the clinics are also a platform to spot and identify up and coming talents to be trained and nurtured under the academy.
