Pak Yakup, 86, from Belawai has been living alone in a dilapidated wooden house at Kampung Matang Lot 10, Jalan Matang over the past 11 years. He is paralysed from the waist down and needs help from his kind neighbours to move around.

Last weekend, a group of volunteers from Sukarelawan Belia Petra Jaya, Yayasan Kemajuan Insan Sarawak (Yakin), Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Baitulmal and Cats FM came to give him a helping hand.

They cleaned and painted his house, removed and replaced his soiled mattress, fixed the wooden floor and cleared the overgrown bushes.

The Community Development Unit of the Welfare Department will visit Yakup and determine possible assistance they could offer Yakup who due to his conditions and needed daily care.

Members of the public are also encouraged to inform Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysia of anybody who is neglected and in need of welfare assistance.
