In conjunction with the nationwide celebration of Malaysia’s Engineer’s Week, the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section (YES) Sarawak Branch will be organising the second consecutive IEM Engineer’s Run here on September 11.

Partnering with VivaCity Megamall, the run will be held at the mall from 6am onwards.

Various branches of IEM YES in the country will also be organising the IEM Engineer’s Run including its Kuala Lumpur headquarters on August 12, it’s Southern branch on October 1 and Penang branch on December 18.

IEM was established in 1959 for the primary functions of promoting and advancing the science and profession of engineering in any or all of its disciplines, and for facilitating the exchange of information and ideas related to engineering.

The main objective of the IEM YES Sarawak Branch in organizing the IEM Engineer’s Run is to celebrate Malaysia’s Engineer’s Week, and to promote the importance of exercise and health during the conduct of engineering services.

According to the organizing chairman Johnny Tan Joo Kok, IEM Engineer’s Run is also a charity run where in the last year’s edition, the IEM YES (Sarawak Branch) managed to channel RM7,500 to the Kidney Association of Sarawak.

“This year, we are targeting 2,500 runners, and all the proceeds will be channelled to the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).

“We urge especially engineering companies to generously sponsor the event and the members of the public to step forward to support this charitable event as a sign of care to the children who are fighting against cancer,” he said in a press statement.

The event will be divided into the following categories and sub-categories, comprising of 10km run for Engineers (men and women), 10km run for the public (men and women), and 5km fun runs.

All participants who finish the run within the cut-off time (1.5 hours for the 5km runs and 2 hours for the 10km runs) will also receive finisher medals. Further to the prizes, all participants will also have the chance to win exclusive lucky draws during the Closing & Prize Giving Ceremony.

The event will have its closing and prize-giving ceremony after the run at 7.30am and is expected to be declared closed by the Kuching City South Mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn.

The registration fees per person are RM55 for the 5km Fun Runs, and RM60 for the 10km Competitive Runs. Entry forms can be obtained at Revolution Run Borneo – Green Heights, IEM YES Sarawak Facebook page and IEM Sarawak Branch office at Ultimate Professional Centre in Bukit Mata, Kuching (Opposite Hills Shopping Mall).
