Nurul Ashima Affendi won Miss Talent Cultural Harvest Festival

Songbird Nurul Ashima Affendi was crowned Miss Talent Cultural Harvest Festival yesterday evening (Apr 29).
The 23-year-old Malay lass from Kuching who delivered a spectacular performance of Agnes Monica’s ‘Kerna Ku Sanggup’ said that she never expected to win the subsidiary title.
“I did not expect this win and am still surprised by this victory. Overall, the finalists that competed tonight, were all great, it was a tough competition,” she said, adding that it took her one month to prepare for her performance.
Shima bagged home cash prize of RM1, 000, a sash, a bouquet of flowers and a 2-day, 1-night stay at Grand Margherita Hotel.
On her inspiration, she said that her mother who is a cultural singer Noraini Khan has always been her strongest supporter and encouraged her to sing, polishing her talents and skills until she finally won the competition.
First runner up went to Kedung Ballang Kapung, a 21-year-old Kelabit lass for her rocking solo drumming performance. Kedung received a cash prize of RM700, a sash and a bouquet.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Elizabeth Lydia, 22, from Kuching was second runner-up with her mesmerizing belly dance performance. She received a cash prize of RM500, a sash, and a bouquet.
The other finalists who competed for the subsidiary title include Haziqah Hamdan, 19, Morgan Christincey Baru, 24, Tangerine Mallison Chaing, 19, Trisdewi Trisno, 24, Priscilia Christopher, 23, Emily Sara Chan, 19, Amanda Jane Simon, 20, Catherine Luweny Lof, 22, and Nur Haziah Khadijah Mazlan, 22.
The prizes were presented by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) general manager Soedirman Aini, and witnessed by Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) general manager Jane Lian Labang, and World Harvest Festival director Zaini Zainuddin.
Judges for the competition were theatre activist Zakaria Hassan and TV personality Damia Cassandra Manja and the finalists were evaluated based on talent, originality, creativity, costumes, and audience votes.
Miss Cultural Harvest Festival is one of the highlights for the annual World Harvest Festival that had started since April 29 to May 1 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
