A team of enforcers from the Sarawak Forest Department (SFD) proved that using drone in monitoring illegal felling helps to combat illegal logging activities in the state.

In a recent operation at Jalan Pasi, Salidap near Sarikei on April 18, the SFD enforcement team successfully confiscated more than 300 logs of various species and lengths believed to be worth RM17,000 on the market.

According to a tip-off from members of the public, the logs were usually being transported late at night until early morning on weekends from Sarikei to Sibu.

The case is under further investigation by the department.

Under Section 90 (1) of the Forests Ordinance 2015, such an offence will lead to a fine with a maximum RM150,000 and imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

SFD will continue using drone in their future operations, at any time and place throughout the state, and they will not hesitate to take action accordingly upon those who were found to be involved in the cutting, removing and collecting of forest produce without having any forest timber licence.
