Students fly high during SMK Muara Tuang’s track and field inter-house championship
Winning and losing is part and parcel of any sports event, but the students at SMK Muara Tuang learnt that good sportsmanship was an essential lesson for everybody to learn.
SMK Muara Tuang’s 37th Inter-House Track and Field Championship recently held at the Unimas stadium saw sports house Marikh taking first place, followed by Zuhrah as first runner up and Zuhal as the second runner up.
In addition to that, students from Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI) from SMK Muara Tuang and SMK Asajaya also participated in the championship.
The purpose of the participation was to select athletes from among the PPKI students to represent the Samarahan division in the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Championship that will be held next month.
In line with the Ministry of Education’s 1Student 1Sport Policy, the annual sports event offered the best medium to scout for potential athletes in the school.
According to SMK Muara Tuang principal Wahap Wak, the event could only be achieved through complete support from the school as well as full commitment from the athletes themselves.
He also expressed his appreciation to Unimas for allowing the school to use the stadium for the championship.
Before the closing ceremony, a taekwando and silat demonstration was presented by students of SMK Muara Tuang.
Aside from that, a procession participated by all uniform bodies and eight sports houses also took part in the event.
Also present during the closing and prize-giving ceremony were Nawi Som, the Yang Dipertua (YDP) of SMK Muara Tuang’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
In his speech, he mentioned that a personal donation from himself worth RM3,000 and RM2,000 from the PTA of SMK Muara Tuang had been given to the school to organise the annual school sports event in 2017.
