BPIEF: Not just an education fair

The Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF) 2016 was made merrier with more activities held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Feb 27 to 28.
Petra Dancers were the curtain-raiser for the launching ceremony of BPIEF 2016 that started at 9.30am on Saturday morning (Feb 27). The dance troupe managed by Awang Arabie Awang Bujang delivered exhilarating traditional and modern dance performances in front of more than 1, 000 visitors at the stage area.
Following that were singing performances by the talented and versatile performer Norafizah Busman. Norafizah delivered Michael Buble’s ‘Sway’, her single entitled ‘Semarak Rindu’, and her set for the launching ceremony with Delta Goodrem’s ‘Together We Are One’, Welfare, Family and Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah’s favourite songs.
The line-up of activities at the seventh edition of BPIEF also included live crossovers by Cats FM, with its Rangers describing the on-going activities and distributing goody bags to attract the listeners to visit the fair.
EXOL and The Basement, two dance troupes under AZAM Young Souls also did an amazing job with their breakdance performances and a flashmob at the fair. Outstanding solo performances were performed by three of their singers, Afiq Zafi, Abang Sayyidi Qiarulzaman Abg Sapali and Sasha Razak.
Apart from the entertainment segments at the fair, there were also sharing sessions delivered by several notable speakers from OurYouth.my including ‘Formal education and why it matters for entrepreneurs’ by AR Mohd, ‘Why you should learn to code’ by Chandima Wijendra, ‘The unconventional career path’ by Malcolm Wu, ‘Choose the Arts and Not Living Out of a Box’ by Poh Sze-Lyn, ‘Fearless’ by Dr Teo Kim Hoon, ‘Out of the Comfort Zone’ by Cailtyn Ong, and ‘Embrace Talent and Nurture Potential’ by Nah Wai Murn.
SarawakYES! also participated in the sharing session with its speaker Jacky Lee talking on ‘Trends in the Sarawak Job Market’.
Inspiring and charismatic Esther Law also spared some of her time to educate the students and fellow visitors on topics including ‘Where Are You?’ and ‘Put Your Dream to the Test’. Law also gave away her book titled ‘Gateway to life’s values’ to lucky members of the audience.
Norafizah also shared her experience of being an entertainer for more than a decade in local and international music industry at the talks. Norafizah also delivered Josh Groban’s ‘You Raise Me Up’ and Faizal Tahir’s ‘Gemuruh’ leaving the audience in awe during her sharing session.
The Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) also set up their station and managed to collect a total of 87 pints of blood over the course of the two days.
Lucky visitors at the fair were also treated to lots of prizes from the lucky draws sponsored by AirAsia Berhad, Astro, AZ Beauty, Beloya2u.com, Borneo Talk, Cinqasa, Citadines Upland Kuching, Gebriel Padan Artistry Studio, Grand Margherita Hotel, Harbour View Hotel, Ibrahim Perfume, Imperial Hotel Kuching, KTS Trading Sdn Bhd, Lentera Astana, Melissa Francis, Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites, Nancy Mongin – CMM, Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak (PPKS), Riverside Majestic Hotel, Sarawak Convention Bureau, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Technology College Sarawak (TCS), and Tune Hotel Waterfront Kuching.
BPIEF with its many exciting activities managed to gather a total of more than 90 exhibitors and 6, 500 visitors for the two-day fair.
