Ramah Tamah Chinese New Year open house at MBKS

With the aim of bringing people of different backgrounds, cultures and races together in the spirit of unity, the mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Datuk James Chan is inviting the people of Kuching to the seventh edition of thr Ramah Tamah Chinese New Year open house.

Held to celebrate Chap Goh Meh, the open house event is scheduled for February 20th at the MBKS compound from 9 am to 12.30 pm.

As part of the MBKS Neighbourliness Program, the family oriented event serves to bring the local community together to create a social cohesion and relationship thus making Kuching a liveable place with the city adopting the slogan “My City, My Future”.

“We are getting involvement from various NGOs as well as corporate sectors and with a lot of things happening during one morning, I hope that the people of Kuching can bring their family to the event and witness it themselves,” said Chan during the press conference at MBKS on February 17th.

With more than 60 non governmental organisations and corporate bodies participating, members of the public will be treated to various entertainments, food and beverage and free giveaways.

Participating in the event is Lee Onn Group where they are giving away 900 angpaus worth RM16,000 to RM18,000 as well as 2,000 apples to those aged 55 years and above. Those who wishe to receive the angpau must register at the Lee Onn Group stall at 7.30 am on the day itself.

Aside from that, Ibraco Berhad will also be participating in the open house event, giving away goody bags of food and also handing out about 1,500 angpau worth RM15,000 to members of the public.

In addition to that, there will also be 88 lion dance performance, 24 drum performances, performances by the finalists of Kuching Got Talent 2015 and free balloons.

For the event, it is urged that those bringing their children must be accompanied by their parents at all times.

With more than 40,000 people attending the event last year, the mayor of MBKS hopes that this year would also be as well received.

Also expected to be present during the event is Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Admission for the event is free.
