Fandi Burger gets a boost up thanks to Era FM
Burger seller Abang Afandi Abang Othman lost it all when his rented house at Kampung Tunku near Jalan Astana was razed by fire on Dec 12 last year.
He not only lost his home, but also his livelihood as the burger stall where he sold his homemade burgers, a major source of income for him and his family for over 28 years also went up in flames.
Much to his relief, he got the chance to rebuild his burger stall on Jan 29 with the help of ERA fm Sarawak and Skuad Era, in line with Astro Radio’s #hopecouragestrength campaign.
“I am very grateful to all those who put their effort to help me to finally rebuild my burger stall and got the chance to get back up and continue helping my family,” said the passionate cook and burger seller who has been a favorite of the local community.
He hopes that after the reopening of his burger stall, he will have the chance to bounce back after the tragedy and provide greater satisfaction to his loyal customers while providing support to his father, who is in his 90s, and disabled brother.
Fellow radio announcers and Skuad Era have been working for the past few weeks to rebuild Fandi’s Burger Stall and Jan 29 marks the official day of #BangunkanSemulaFandiBurger.
News that the renowned burger stall had burned down in the fire was posted all over the social media. Soon enough, Era FM radio announcer Afick had come to hear about this favorite childhood hangout and got in touch with Abang Afandi to see what he could do.
“He is not just an ordinary burger seller nor is his like burger ordinary like other stalls available in Petra Jaya,” said Afick.
Over the last two weeks, Era FM Sarawak took the initative to help him with all his necessities such as building a new stall, buying utensils, appliances, and ingredients to kick start his business at RPR Phase 2, Kampung Tunku in Jalan Astana, Petra Jaya.
During the official launching of the rebuilding of Fandi’s Burger Stall on Jan 29 from 4pm to 6pm, the first 100 customers were also treated to free burgers and drinks paid by ERA fm Sarawak.
“My advice to all aspiring businessmen out there is to never give up, and even though at times we may feel that we are at our lowest point in our life, we must continue to be mentally and physically ready to face what is ahead of us,” said Abang Afandi who now lives with his nephew.
“As a businessman, we must also focus on our service because good service can ensure greater business opportunities and make you memorable,” said Abang Afandi who usually generates sales RM400 to RM500 from his burgers with recipes he learned from a course provided by the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI).
He also said that he would look for a new house if he has extra income from his business in future.
