Energetic Nolza brings down the house
By Patricia Hului
Korean pop (Kpop) rookie group Nolza could not get enough of Kuching that they had to come back again for a concert on Dec 14.
The four-member band first performed in town last April during the Asean International Film Festival and Awards (Aiffa).
Under their management – LOUDers Entertainment together with Winter Star Sdn Bhd Director Terry Kim – Nolza held their performance at the Grand Ballroom of Imperial Hotel.
The night started with an upbeat performance by Red-L as the opening act for Nolza.
For a group that had not made their debut even in their home country, Red-L gave a praiseworthy dance performance including a song from a more established group 2NE1.
Red-L also danced and sang their hearts out in ‘Up & Down’ originally sung by EXID.
One of the members – Yeon Hee – spoke fairly fluently in Mandarin making their interaction with the audience smoother.
Even when the group members; Jung Eun, Seol Yi, Ga Yong and Yeon Hee ended their performance, they came back on stage as Nolza’s backup dancers.
Finally the moment came for Nolza to take the stage; some 200 audience members went wild seeing their favourite idols.
Yar, Bum Sang, Doo Chul and Ppase presented their very own song ‘Bubiboom’ as their opening song before carrying on their rendition of DJ Doc’s ‘I’m a Man like This’.
They then sang ‘So High’ and ‘Candy Boy’, two other original tracks from their first EP.
Nolza also covered songs such as ‘Friday Night’ by Dynamic DUO, ‘Don’t Cry’ by The Cross, ‘Champion’ by Psy, ‘Nothing on You’, ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘When I was Your Man’ by Bruno Mars.
The group seemed to be a big fan of Big Bang and one of its members G-Dragon, singing their songs including ‘Loser’, ‘Bang Bang Bang’, ‘Fantastic Baby’, ‘Good Boy’, ‘Having an affair’ and ‘Crooked’.
With each song, they brought along a whole bunch of enthusiasm and energy as they went around the I-shaped stage performing and interacting with their audience.
Yarr, through translation that lit up the screen behind them, said they were honoured and touched that Nolza could headline their first main concert here in Kuching,
“In the same way, we hope that right here and right now we can cherish this moment as our first and share our love for you through our performance, leaving a mark in your hearts,” said the group leader whose real name is Lee Jung Min.
