BCCK celebrates Christmas tree light-up
The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) kick-started its Isthmus Christmas celebration with a tree lighting ceremony on December 16 together with 45 children from the Salvation Army Children’s Home as part of their annual charity event.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was officiated by BCCK chief financial officer Joseph Chung on behalf of CEO Eric van Piggelen followed by Chirtsmas carolling by the children from the Salvation Army.
According to Chung, this year marked a bountiful year for BCCK, as it was a 2015 rAWr Award Winner of Malaysia Business Events Awards of Excellence. The convention centre won in the category For the Purpose Built Convention & Exhibition Centre Award for Excellence (below 15,000 sqm gross saleable space).
rAWr Awards (Recognising Award Winning Results) is a joint initiative between the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers (MACEOS) and is held bi-annually since 2013.
Chung added that its Raintree Restaurant had also been recognised by Malaysia Tatler as one of the best dining establishments in its 2015 edition of the Best Restaurants Guide.
“Three of BCCK’s junior chefs took home a bronze medal and two culinary diplomas after competing in Culinaire Malaysia 2015 ‘Malaysian Battle of the Chefs’, an international culinary competition held bi-annually in Kuala Lumpur, which this year saw 1, 300 chefs from 14 countries vying for the top awards,” he added.
The tree lighting event also saw the children from Salvation Army receiving Christmas gifts sponsored by staff members of BCCK as part of the convention centre’s corporate social responsibility programme.
The event concluded with a Christmas buffet dinner at The Raintree Restaurant.
