Ten-year-old Abdul Halim Hisamudin won back the champion title for Sarawak in RTM’s Bintang Kecil singing competition during the grand final held at RTM Kuching on December 13.

Despite failing to make it to the Top 3 of the competition last year, Abdul Halim proved that the second time around was indeed the charm. His dedication and hard work paid off as he gave a powerful rendition of Caliph Busker’s ‘Hanya Namamu’ to score high points from the judges.

“I am shocked and extremely happy to finally win this competition,” said the SK Bandar Baru Samariang pupil when met after the prize presentation. “I dedicate this to my family who never failed to provide me with support, encouragement, pick me up with words of advice and always inspire me to do my best in life.”

The youngest of four siblings, Abdul Halim comes from a singing family and started to sing when he was still in kindergarten. He loves all genres of songs especially Irama Malaysia. His first taste of victory in singing competitions was when he won the Bintang Kecil Karaoke organised by P Ramlee Fan Club Sarawak (KPPRS) in 2013, in which he is also the youngest member of the club.

“I love singing, and I will take this victory as my stepping stone to go further in the entertainment industry,” said Abdul Halim who also aspires to become a pilot.

All finalists were judged by five professionals in the entertainment industry, including Champion of Bintang RTM 1983 Juliza Adzlizan.

“I can say that Abdul Halim delivered the song he sang tonight better than the original singer. I can hear his singing clearly and his low notes are incredible and it was a brilliant performance,” Juliza said when asked for her comment after Abdul Halim’s performance.

“Abdul Halim definitely brings fresh vocals in the music industry and I believe he can become a great singer in the near future.”

As the winner, Abdul Halim walked away with a cash prize of RM15, 000, while Farhana Naslyn Suhailin from Sabah and Hafi Danisha Lili Mohd Hafiz from Terengganu brought home RM10, 000 and RM7, 000 by winning the first and second runner-up places, respectively.
