KOTA SAMARAHAN: Researchers from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) won four medals in the ‘International Trade Fair Ideas Inventions New Product’ (iENA) expo in Nuremberg, Germany, recently.

The gold medal was brought home by lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering (FK) at Unimas, Professor Dr M. Shahidul Islam with his work on ‘Novel Research on Desalination Process Plant Capacity Optimisation: In the Aspect of Commercialization, Energy and Environmental Sustainability’.

Meanwhile, the silver medal was won by Ir Dr David BL Bong, also from FK Unimas with a product entitled ‘Bit-Plane Extraction Approach for Biometric Identification’.

Two more bronze medals were awarded to Dr Saiful Bahari Mohd Yusof from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FSGK) of Unimas with his ‘Flooring Panel Product from Compacted Palm Oil Fiber (Frond Fiber and EFB)’ and Prof Dr Alvin W. Yeo from ISITI Unimas with his project on ‘Digitalising and Preserving Oroo: A Secret Signage Language of the Nomadic Penans in the Rainforest’.

The 67th iENA expo was held in Nuremberg from October 29 to November 1 and was participated by more than 36 countries with over 700 varieties of products and inventionsbeing showcased.
