Enjoy the sight, sound and taste of the 14th intercultural mooncake festival

Get yourself ready, Kuchingites, a slew of night festivities at the annual Kuching Intercultural Mooncake Festival is just around the corner!

To be held from September 22-27 from 6 pm until 11 pm, the festival will have a variety of activities lined up such as dragon and lion dance, performances from Nan Yan Traditional Orchestra and Tian Tian Dance Troupe, Chinese traditional music performance, joget performance, multi racial traditional performance, silat presentation, busking, live band performance and lantern riddles.

“This event is supported by Ministry of Tourism an I would like to record my thanks to Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg for his support from the day of inception 14 years ago to this event,” said co-organising chairman Sim Kiang Chiok during the press conference for the 14th Kuching Inter-cultural Mooncake Festival at Majma.

Organised by the Kuching Old Market Community Association, the festivals which aim to promote unity in diversity through ‘Sight Sound and Taste’ is going to be held in various points in the city: Carpenter Street, Ewe Hai Street, China Street and Bishopsgate Street.

Also coinciding with the Sarawak Regatta, Resident Shukarmin Chaseman hopes that more people would be joining in the festival as the distance between the two events is only a stone’s throw a way from each other.

According to Sim, this year hawkers from Satok will be participating in the festival, bringing multiple flavours of food and delicacies for visitors to indulge in.

Currently about 60 stalls are joining in the festival where about 100 stalls are able to be accommodated during the six-day festival.

Those interested in participating in the festival as art, culture, traditional or modern entertainers, can contact Sim Han Tong at 019-8882000 while those interested in participating in selling food, souvenir and any suitable service or product at the allocated designated area for stalls at RM210 during the duration of the festival may contact Ms Thien at 082-242940 or 012-8088061 for the application form.
