Gym promoter Leopas Bunsu Saba, 23, from Sarikei won the ‘Mr Biker’ title at the recent bodybuilding competition held on August 5 in conjunction with the inaugural Kuching International Bike Week (KIBW).
He beat nine other finalists, receiving a RM2, 000 cash prize, a medal and other sponsored prizes.
“The competition is aimed at providing opportunities for bodybuilders in Sarawak to get more involved in the sport. It is also aimed at giving support and encouragement on their involvement in bodybuilding,” said organising committee member Muhd Zulkarnain.
Out of 23 participants picked in the semi-final round, the 10 participants selected for the finals including Leopas himself were Mohd Faizal Mat Rashid, Edison Eddie, Azmir Ajis, Abdul Ramzi Bujang, Eivo Kelvin, Mohamad Nurhafizi, Allen Lee, Abdul Aziz Mohsin and Shaifadzilah Buang.
They were judged based on their muscle definition displayed in several poses including front double biceps, side chest, back double biceps, side triceps, and abdominal and thighs. In the spirit of the Mr Biker competition, they were all wearing biker gear and accessories.
Mohd Faizal Mat Rashid and Abdul Ramzi Bujang placed first and second runner-up and brought home cash prizes of RM1, 500 and RM1, 200, and other sponsored prizes, respectively.
“I started to get involved in the sport since I was in Form 3, when my brother who was also interested in it brought me to work out together. After quite some time, as I was excited to improve and see the my body progression, I began to enter bodybuilding competitions,” said the former Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Samarahan campus student.
His future in the sport looks bright, as he has managed to grab several prestigious bodybuilding titles including Mr Borneo Bodybuilding Supplement (BBS) 2015, champion for the Mr Fitness 170cm and below during the Borneo Cultural Festival held in Sibu last August.
“I wish to one day become a professional bodybuilder as it has always been my passion since I entered this field,” the fourth child of five siblings added.
