Music, film and Internet bigwigs to speak at KL Converge! 2015
KUALA LUMPUR: The countdown to the second edition of KL Converge! has begun. On August 27, get ready to meet and listen to distinguished international and local speakers from music, film, Internet and application-development fields.
KL Converge! is organised to demonstrate how converged communications advance the digital lifestyle for all Malaysians. Taking place from Aug 27-29 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the event is set to be an exciting and informative affair with something for everyone – from students to businesses and policy makers.
A long list of renowned international studios, including Nickelodeon Animation Studio (US), Zodiak Kdids (France) and Disney Asia (Singapore) have registered their participation in the event, due to the interest in Malaysia’s digital content makers. This is a testament to Malaysia’s growing significance in the global multimedia content supply chain and an insight into some of the ways KL Converge! bridges the gap between the locally produced digital content and the demand from the international supply chain.
KL Converge! 2015 will feature an engaging programme with Internet of Things (IoT) related topics, apps, hackathons, workshops and technology exhibitions. Participants can also expect a line up of legendary speakers delving into topics including start-ups, digital innovation, robotics, film-making, YouTube fame and much more.
Professor Adrian Cheok from City University London will be in town specifically for KL Converge! 2015. He will share insights into his research on a unique concept of pervasive computing and a multi-sensory Internet. Imagine having virtual experiences where you’d be able to not only hear and see, but also smell, taste and touch things, via everyday smart devices. This is what professor Adrian is working on and will be speaking about at the event.
“Internet communication today is mainly limited to audio-vision. However in the real world, we communicate with all of our five senses. Envision a future where we can communicate on-line with touch, taste, and smell,” shared Adrian who is also the Founder/Director of Mixed Reality Lab.
Popular Malaysian hip-hop figure, Joe Flizzow, will also be bringing his beat to KL Converge! 2015 in a special session highlighting the challenges musicians face in the modern music industry of today with strategic suggestions on tackling them.
“In the dynamic world of today, the music industry is constantly evolving at a rapid pace. There are new developments and challenges to address and I will be sharing some ideas to not only survive but thrive in the industry,” said Joe Flizzow, who is also a producer and songwriter.
Anyone keen on YouTube fame will be delighted to know that popular Malaysian YouTubers, JinnyBoy TV and The Ming Thing, will be present to share tips on creating good YouTube videos and producing engaging stories.
Those interested in film-making will be happy to hear that a panel of ASEAN filmmakers from the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) will be conducting two sessions on the ASEAN film market and co-production opportunities. In addition, a special ASEAN Film Screening marathon is scheduled during KL Converge! 2015, featuring 15 films with five screenings daily at TGV KLCC and GSC Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. Films include several favourites such as Cuak (Malaysia), Yasmine (Brunei), Sayang Disayang (Singapore), Soekarno (Indonesia) and more.
