By Jude Toyat

FOR 30 WOMEN, THE CHANCE to get up close and personal with professional makeup artist to the stars Gebriel Padan proved to be an exciting experience.

The one-day workshop, Makeup Update Programme, held recently at Harbour View Hotel here catered to working women and young ladies on correct make-up application techniques.

“In today’s workshop, we go back to the basics,” said Gebriel when met after the event. “Most ladies nowadays are still uncertain about the function of makeup kits, correct methods of application and techniques, as well as choices of colours.”

Gebriel demonstrated proper makeup application techniques for day and evening makeup. He also gave plenty of make-up tips such as steps to be taken before and after makeup application.

“The purpose of makeup is only to enhance the beauty that’s always been there. True beauty starts with beautiful skin, thus it is important for you to take good care of it.

“Some of the basic things that help to take care of your skin include toner, moisturiser, serum, mask, and face wash, but bear in mind it has to suit your own skin too.

“For makeup, basic things include foundation, compact powder, colored eyeshadows, eyeliner, false eyelashes, blusher, lipstick and various types of brushes for shading and contouring,” he explained.

Gebriel also advised young women still new to applying makeup that they can start with products such as Revlon, Maybelline, Silkygirl and several Korean products available in the market.

“For those who can afford it, they can go for MAC,” he added.

“It was really fun. Initially I thought it was going to be a cold and boring workshop, but Gebriel proved me wrong. With him teaching us here, I felt overjoyed. He has amazing skills in teaching too, apart from his excellent works on makeup. At least now I know what is right and what is wrong about makeup from his workshop today,” she said.

Meanwhile, for 21-year-old student Nurul Syakina Awang from Sabah, the workshop was a pleasure.
