Creating future computer coders at Unimas

ABOUT 80 SECONDARY SCHOOL students from SMK Hajjah Laila Taib and SMK Sg Tapang learnt about computer programming and coding during the Microsoft Imagine Camp 2015 held at University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) on May 23.

According to Unimas’ press statement, the camp was organised by Microsoft Malaysia in collaboration with Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia, Here Map and the Faculty of Computer Science and IT at Unimas.

“The approach is more towards fun activities using free tools such as Here Map and Hour of Code.”

The activities were conducted by Microsoft DX technology advisor TC Pun and Siti Rahimah from Here Map. They were assisted by Microsoft student partners from Unimas and Taylor’s College.

“The workshop has achieved its objective. Participants enjoyed the sessions exploring the world of programming using freely available online tools.”

“It is hoped that with such exposure, more students will be inspired and motivated to become producers of software, and consequently pursue a computer science or IT degree programme at Unimas in the near future,” Unimas added.
