Got a talent? Show off your skills at the busking competition June 5

MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC are invited to come and show off their talent in the inaugural busking event and competition ‘Leema Waterfront Busking Festival 2015’ to be held at the Kuching Waterfront starting June 5.

“The festival hopes to discover local talent of buskers, while providing fun and casual entertainment. Families are welcome to join the festivities and it will be free entry for the audience,” said SEDC Sarawak chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip at a press conference held here May 22.

All types of street performers are accepted including singers, musicians, dancers and magicians either individually or in groups and will be charged a commitment fee of RM20.

During the preliminaries to be held on June 5 and 6 along the Waterfront, 40 groups will be selected and then they will be shortlisted into 10 for the finals.

The best 10 individuals or groups will then perform at the final to be held at Godown Amphitheatre on June 13.

The winner, first runner-up, and second runner-up, will receive trophies and cash prizes of RM800, RM500 and RM300, respectively. The other seven individuals or groups will receive RM100 each and hampers.

Leema as the title sponsor for this festival will also be giving a prize for the most popular performer and promoting the event via their Facebook page ‘Leemabrand’ and Instagram @leemacrew. The most popular performer by votes will also be given cash prize of RM100 and a hamper.

“Apart from discovering talents among the street performers or buskers, the festival also hopes to promote the Waterfront as a venue for fun casual entertainment.

“We hope that with the encouraging response from members of the public, this festival will be turned into a yearly festival and be an iconic tourism product for us here as well,” said Talib, who is also Assistant Minister of Tourism Sarawak.

Entry forms for the competition can be obtained from Kuching Town Souvenir, Level 1 of Riverside Shopping Complex, or at Mahua Enterprise, Level 1 of Sarawak Plaza Shopping Complex.
