THE COUNTDOWN IS ON FOR Miss Global International Sarawak (MGIS) 2015 with another subsidiary title being bestowed on one of its 19 finalists. The recent Miss Charming title held at Victoria Arms (VA) on May 16 went to 18-year-old Ezza Hunny from Sibu.
She was also appointed VA and Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites ambassador for a year starting from May 17, 2015 to May 17, 2016.
Today also marks the start of MGIS pageant week from May 18 to 20 which will include special appearances, welcoming dinner, fitness challenge, talent night, training session, hi-tea and the pre-judging.
About 1,400 people are expected to attend the MGIS 2015 grand final to be held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on May 21.
According to MGIS state director Nicky Everett, this includes local and international pageant experts and beauty queens and winners from several beauty pageant competitions around the world.
Nicky added that MGIS as the state organiser for Miss Global International Malaysia (MGIM) is fully committed to bringing Sarawakian beauties to the world stage.
“MGIS is not just about beauty, intelligence and talent. We want a beauty queen who can represent Sarawakians – its spirit of unity as well as culture,” he added.
He hopes that their first year organising this event deemed the third largest beauty pageant in the world will garner a lot of support from people in Sarawak.
“MGIS is the only beauty pageant in Sarawak that sends representatives for the national and international levels. We do hope that next year’s edition of this pageant will get bigger and more prestigious,” Nicky explained.
With regards to the controversy sparked over the ‘Lady of Borneo’ national costume which saw one finalist wearing a loincloth, Nicky said that the organiser of MGIM had issued an apology.
“The organiser has issued a statement to apologised to everyone, especially the people of Sarawak. Miss Global International Malaysia national director Marlene Lim has also contacted the parties involved on the issue,” Nicky said.
The final judging criteria include communication skills and personality interview, beauty of face and physical attractiveness, national costume and evening gown presentation, and subsidiary titles.
The top 3 winners will also abide by a one-year contract with MGIS and will represent Sarawak in the national level Miss Global International Malaysia (MGIM) 2015 on Aug 1. All preparation will be managed by MGIS before the national competition begins that includes a two month intensive training at a beauty camp in Kuala Lumpur.
