A 76-YEAR-OLD GREAT GRANDMOTHER shaved her head yesterday to help kids fight cancer during the 7th edition of Go Bald Kuching organised by Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) at Cityone Megamall.
According to Lee Ngiuk Kee, “I pledged to shave because I feel sympathetic for children who are suffering with cancer and I wanted to do something to help.”
Her first time joining Go Bald, Lee raised the lucky number RM8,888 to help SCCS reach this year’s target of RM1.5 million.
Lee who has nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild came with the support of her family members and the Tabuan Jaya Neighbourhood Park Praise Dance Ministry.
She inspired those besides her including Margaret Fong, the praise dance instructor.
Fong stated, “We feel proud of her because at her age, she still has the courage, love and good heart to raise funds for children with cancer. She may inspire anyone of us to follow her footsteps perhaps next year.”
Another donor Pui Shak Ling, a 52-year-old sales adviser shaved his head for the fourth time for Go Bald.
This year, Pui brought along his friend Leo Aten, 54, a first-timer raising fund for children with cancer.
“I feel this is for a good cause,” Leo said.
Pui and Leo raised RM930 and RM102 respectively through their pledge cards.
SCCS intended to raise RM1.5 million this year for the setup of a new transit home in Miri, to cover their operational cost and to focus more on improving their support services.
Go Bald will come to Delta Mall Sibu May 10, Permaisuri Imperial City Mall Miri May 17 and Parkcity Everly Hotel on May 24.
