놀자 (nol-ja) MAY BE A KOREAN TERM for ‘let’s play’, but it’s also the name for K-Pop (Korean pop) rookie group, ‘Nolza’, a four-member boy band consisting of leader Yarr, Bum Sang, Ppase and Du Chul.

If you’re not familiar with Nolza, think back on Lee Jung – sometimes known as J-Lee – who collaborated with the group in KBS World’s show called Immortal Songs 2.

Dubbed the South Korean prince or R&B, Lee Jung has been making regular appearances on Korean variety shows such as X-man and Love Letter in the mid-2000s before well-known variety shows like Family Outing and Running Man came about, and also shares the same agency with Nolza – LOUDers Entertainment.

Compared to this veteran, Nolza made their first debut under that agency on June 23 last year.

Barely 10 months old, the group still managed to gather some 60 fans at Riverside Shopping Complex on Apr 10 during a fan meet-and-greet session where fans also received free autographed CDs.

In South Korea, K-Pop fans are known for their unique fan chants where they would have a different cheer for different artistes and songs. Nolza performed two songs during the session– ‘So High’ and ‘Bubi Boom’ – and took the time to teach their local audience the fan chant for ‘So High’.

When Nolza performed the catchy ‘Bubi Boom’, the four young men provoked more screaming from their teenage fans as they performed their fun choreography.

Both songs were Nolza’s only music videos released so far and share one thing in common: they are addictive tunes.

The K-Pop group’s first visit to Kuching is in conjunction with the ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards (AIFFA 2015).

Besides having their meet-and-greet session, Nolza performed during the AIFFA opening session in Sarawak Cultural Village on Friday evening and will be performing at tonight’s Gala Night at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Apr 11.
