Month of March all about charity for Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites
KUCHING: Earth Hour is an annual light-off event to raise awareness about climate change held on the last Saturday of March every year.
This year, Earth Hour fell on March 28. Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites joined the rest of the world in this year’s Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights to support the move. Between 8.30pm to 9.30pm, candles were lit in the lobby and F&B outlets; while soothing music was played by the resident pianist in the lobby. Guests were also invited to take part in this event by turning off the lights in their rooms for an hour.
Besides observing Earth Hour, the Staff Recreation Club (SRC) of Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites collected and sold recyclable items, the proceeds from which went to buying goods for Hope Place, an organisation in Kuching set up to help the needy in Kuching and its surrounding area.
The donations were handed to Kelvin Wan, the founder of Hope Place at the hotel by Irene Law, Marketing Communications Manager on March 27. Hotel staff also made personal contributions.
The recycling campaign headed by the SRC president Gedang Jetom is an ongoing activity at the hotel where waste from the workplace and home are collected and recycled from time to time.
The staff of Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites had also taken part in Earth Hour Walk organised by DBKU at the Waterfront Kuching to support the movement. Staff are encouraged to take part in community events as part of living a balanced lifestyle.
Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites believes that giving back to the community is a big part of living a meaningful life. For further inquiries about Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites’ Corporate Social Responsibility programme, contact Marketing & Communications department at 082-270043.
