AYCLive’s next episode a success
THE FIRST edition of ‘[email protected]’ programme for the year 2015 held at AZAM Youth Central here on March 14 saw an exciting lineup of activities dedicated to youth from Kuching and the surrounding areas as well as a new entrepreneurship competition called ‘Kuching Shark Tank’.
Designed to hone participants’ confidence and sense of entrepreneurship, the ‘Kuching Shark Tank’ saw entrepreneurs from the 30 booths participating in the mini flea market attempt to outshine each other in pitching their products to potential customers.
Other youth interests included a cosplay presentation by members of the Gendai-Bu! Club, a yoyo demonstration by Ryan Han from YoYo Ranger, a card game tournament set up by the Neko Neko Nyaa Group, aTamiya 4WD mini-car race, art exhibition, and a reading corner.
A lion dance performance by members of the Nanyang Wushu Federation kicked off the afternoon at 1pm, followed by a martial arts demonstration by the federation and the Kuching Taekwondo and Self Defense Academy.
The evening ended at 10pm after live performances from local bands including Jejak Biru, The Farah and Polar from Kuching, Shone & Co from Mukah, and S.I.O from Sibu, giving a chance for the audience to rock their bodies and bang their heads while taking memorable photos at the same time.
The one-day programme, organised by Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) and the AZAM Young Souls volunteers, proved to be a success at maximizing the production of ideas from local youth with the involvement of new faces from various industries showcasing their talents and interests.
Under the banner of ‘Young Souls & the City’, the weekend activities were held to provide a platform for local youths to congregate, interact and create various useful and creative activities not only for the youth themselves but also for the larger community.
It is hoped to contribute towards making Kuching into a more socially and culturally vibrant city, and to bring together youths of diverse backgrounds, races and beliefs in an effort to strengthen social harmony in the state.
The [email protected] series or urban youth events was introduced in January 2014, spearheaded by youth volunteers under AZAM’s youth development and engagement programme. Six editions of the event have been held so far at AZAM Youth Central at Medan Pelita courtesy of Pelita Holdings Sdn Bhd.
