Voice of LEEMA@Riverside starts tomorrow

The inaugural Voice of LEEMA@Riverside singing competition will be kicking off tomorrow Feb 7 and see a total 40 students from higher learning institutions around Kuching and Samarahan competing to be the Voice of LEEMA.

Held at the Riverside Shopping Complex this weekend, the preliminary round on Feb 7 from 12 noon to 6pm will be shortlisting hopeful candidates to 12 finalists while the final round on Feb 8 will start from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Apart from being a platform discover singing talents among Sarawak’s youth, Cinqasa Sdn Bhd production manager Azreen Nor said the inaugural battle singing competition hosted together with the Riverside Shopping Complex aims to provide opportunities for students to showcase their singing talent while they are studying.

So the institutions include Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak, SEGi College Sarawak, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR) Sarawak Campus, Advance Management and Technology Centre (PTPL) College, Technology College Sarawak (TCS), Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS), Open University Malaysia (OUM) Sarawak, Kuching Community College, and Polytechnic Malaysia Kuching.

“As Cinqasa and LEEMA had done before, through another singing competition, SPOTLIGHT, we managed to produce very talented singers from around Sarawak and now they are well known at the national level. Some have even managed to work together with local music producers including Ajai and Audi Mok,” said Azreen during today’s press conference at Riverside Shopping Complex.

For the first season of Voice of LEEMA@Riverside, the focus is on higher learning institutions around Kuching and Samarahan, and limited to only 40 contestants.

“In the near future, we will open it to more higher learning institutions to join and compete,” he said.

The Voice of LEEMA@Riverside judges panel consists of Azreen, CQ Music talent manager Yasz Dizayrie and Cats FM programme manager Aelma Zaidi who will be looking for five criterias, namely vocal quality, vocal range, stage presence, audience response, and charisma.

The champion will get the golden opportunity to record one single which will be produced by CQ Music as well as a cash prize of RM300 and a trophy. First and second runner-ups will receive RM200 and RM100 respectively together with a trophy each. Another trophy will be awarded for the Most Popular Contestant based on the audience’s response.

The winning institution will then receive a Challenge Trophy to be displayed at the institution for three months which will be returned to Riverside Shopping Complex for the following season.
