A blast of flavour
Peter Jackson Jindang, 24, together with his cousin 25-year-old Steve Febian Franky and friend Krypton Ajit, 27, used to spend their nights together lepaking.
But since last November, the gang turned their time usually spent hanging out into a business opportunity by opening a pork burger stall in Bau. They also wanted to offer a place where friends gather for great taste and vibes.
“The special thing about our patty is that it is handmade and an original recipe,” said Peter, adding that the recipe was whipped out successful on their first try.
Peter is currently attached with Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, whereas Steve works as messenger for Maybank Satok and Krypton is a runner in Shunto Steel Industries.
“Since we all have day jobs and no time for preparation, our friend – who happened to be a meat supplier – would send the main ingredient to Peter’s elder sister who then helps us in making the patty,” Steve explained.
They also explained that their burger patties were different from most burgers on the market because they took the liberty to steam the patties before putting them on the charcoal grill.
“The water we are using to steam the patties is also not ordinary, we added some ingredients and came up with our own steam water recipe,” Peter stated, adding that they preferred charcoal grills over electrics ones because of the “aromatic smell of barbeques.”
When asked why they were only focusing on pork, Peter and Steve answered simultaneously “Other meats are too mainstream!”
The juicy patties are not the only things the trio handmade on their own, the savoury black pepper sauce they drizzle on each burger is also their own recipe.
Pride for their hometown, inspired the founders to christen their burger stall ‘94000 Steam & Grill Burger’ in honour of Bau’s postal number.
In support of local products, the boys said even their buns were made in Bau.
But that does not stop customers coming in from outside of Bau. Steve pointed out that some customers even drove all the way from Kuching in search of their burger stall located at Happy Café in Bau township.
The trio picked Pork Grilled with Cheese Egg as their customer’s favourite but the highlight of 94000 Steam & Grill Burger is none other than Pork Bomb.
Pork Bomb comes with patty weighing at least 200 gram, egg, cheese, signature black pepper sauce and other garden goodness such as onions and lettuce.
Thanks to the steaming process, the burger patties were juicy and savoury.
The time the patties spent on the grills was favourable because it concealed the taste of the pork and allowed the meat to marinate in its own juices without losing its tenderness.
In the end, the mildly tangy but not over-powering black pepper sauce was what sealed the deal making these pork burgers really worth driving out to Bau for.
Rest assured, 94000 Steam and Grilled Burger promised that no matter how many times you come back for their burgers, they will taste the same every time.
Closed on Monday, the stall opens around 6pm to 11pm.
