Building up momentum
THE HEAVY DOWNPOUR did not dampen the spirits of some 700 runners when they participated in the first series of Momentum Run 2.0 on Jan 18.
Dressed in pink shirts, the runners gathered in front of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) as early as 6am. Since it was drizzling, many participants were seen running with raincoats on and some even holding up umbrellas.
“We did not expect many would turn up because of the rain. But about 700 people came out of almost 1200 registered runners,” said organising chairman Goh Seng Kee, who was satisified with how the non-competitive run turned out that morning.
For this series, it was a combined run between beginner and seasoned runners finishing a total of 8km together.
Goh is hoping more would turn up for the second series of momentum run 2.0 which will be held on Mar 22 also at MBKS.
The second series will have the runners run for two different distances of 12km and 20km.
According to Albert Tan, organising committee member, the purpose of the run is to help runners gain momentum for Kuching Marathon 2015.
He pointed out that the short distance runners will be gearing up for half marathon (21km) and long distance runners will be preparing for full marathon (42km).
After the success of Kuching Marathon last year which attracted more than 5000 runners from all over the world, this year the competition will be held on Aug 16.
Momentum Run Series was organised by City’s Joggers Club Kuching (CJC Kuching), sponsored by Helium Construction Sdn Bhd and Level Up Fitness.
