UiTM Sabah wins best dance choreographer award

UiTM Sabah won the Best Choreographer award for the third time in a row this year during the IPT Borneo Dance Festival held on Dec 12-14 held at the UiTM Sarawak.

Choreographers Samsul Ismail dan Samsul Mallawi were responsible for training and guiding the dancers from UiTM Sabah’s Mahasiswa Seni Sabah (MaSES) dance group.

UiTM Sabah’s dance group MaSES taking to the stage to accept their prizes for Best Choreographer and taking second place in the competition that pitted talents from 12 universities across Borneo.


In addition, UiTM Sabah took second place for the second time in a row in the creative category while Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Labuan international campus) took home the trophy while third place was event host, UiTM Sarawak.

According to UiTM Samarahan rector Professor Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali, the festival is open to all tertiary institutions across Borneo (Sabah, Sarawak, Indonesia and Brunei).

This year a total of 236 people from 12 universities in Borneo took part in the festival. Competing in a single category themed ‘Creative Ethnic’ were Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Putra Malaysia (Bintulu campus), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (Labuan international campus), Unitar International University (Sarawak), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak and UiTM Sabah.

Representing Kalimantan, Indonesia were Universitas Tanjung Pura, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Universitas Palangkaraya, Universiti Mulawarman and Universitas Borneo Tarakan.
