IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING that Christmas is the season for giving, and who needs it more than an animal shelter like the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA)? On December 7, the SSPCA held a Christmas Charity Bazaar participated by 27 vendors in which all the proceeds and profits went towards the SSPCA.

Besides contributing to a good cause, it was also a good excuse to look for the perfect presents to give to loved ones during this festive season.

Among the interesting items on sale were items made by the youths of Heart Treasures Sdn Bhd. Specially designed by Heart Treasures, their crafts are mostly made by those with autism, slow learners, cerebral palsy, deaf and mute, physical disabilities by handcrafting products as part of their motor skill development and occupational therapy.

In addition to raising profits for the SSPCA, it was also a chance for members of the public to adopt a pet.

Among the reasons why one should adopt a pet is:
1. When you are adopting, you would be saving a life.
2. When you adopt a pet, you will receive a lifetime of love from a pet. A pet does not care whether you have money, a fancy car or a huge mansion; they just want your time and compassion.
3. By adopting a pet, it would save you a lot of money: all you have to do is pay the fees for its adoption, instead of an insanely high price from a breeder or a pet store.

So, do your part and adopt a pet, because for all you know, you could have found a companion of a lifetime.

Those interested in adopting a pet may go to SSPCA at Lot 1787 Block 233, 6 ½ Mile Penrissen road, 93748 Kuching, which is open from 10 am till 4 pm and closed on public holidays.
