Monster Dash tallies 5,574 runners this year
A total of 5,574 runners will be joining the ‘Monster Dash Charity Run 2’ to be held this October 4 in Kuching, making it one of the most highly participated running events in Sarawak.
Entering its second installment this year, Monster Dash is a charity run themed around the Halloween celebration and organised by OurYouth.my.
According to Liew, the Monster Dash is back based on popular demand and request that OurYouth.my had received after the first one being held last year.
“Last year, there were only more than 2,000 participants who joined in the first Monster Dash. This year, we expected 3,500 runners, but surprisingly, we have hit a total of 5,574 participants,” said founder of OurYouth.my Dato Patrick Liew at a press conference held here recently.
It is a fun-filled 5km run around the city center with runners dressed as zombies and monsters to ‘scare’ and have fun with the participants while on the run. The run starts and ends at Le’ Park (behind Civic Centre).
“Monster Dash is not only to introduce a healthier lifestyle but also to establish social networking especially among the youth of Kuching. Apart from that, it aims to create social awareness among the general public on different diseases as well as promote a caring and charitable heart in our community,” he added.
Liew also noted that 80 per cent of the participants are from the youth group and are as such, young enthusiasts who will run for their healthy lifestyles and to support its charity purposes.
The run aims to raise funds for three charitable associations, namely the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), The Society for Critically Sick Kids (S.O.S. Kids), and the Kuching & Samarahan Division Cerebral Palsy Association (Wishesland).
Registered participants are advised to come early and be at Le’ Park behind Civic Centre on Oct 4 by 6 pm and get ready for the flag off that is expected to be at 7 pm.
